Antiferromagnetic transitions in the Kondo lattice system Ce2Ni3Ge5
نویسندگان
چکیده
Our investigation of Ce2Ni3Ge5 by means of transport, specific heat and magnetization measurements shows that the compound is a Kondo lattice system exhibiting two antiferromagnetic transitions at TN155.1 K and TN254.5 K. An analysis of the transport and specific heat data suggests that the Kondo energy scale kBTK is of the order of kBTN . The resistivity and heat capacity data below 4 K are suggestive of the appearance of a spin-wave gap. The compound exhibits giant magnetoresistance at low temperature. The crystal field splitting is estimated to be about 180 K.

Quantum phases and fluctuations in correlated electron systems with frustration and competing interactions are reviewed. In the localized moment case the S=1/2 J1 - J2 - model on a square lattice exhibits a rich phase diagram with magnetic as well as exotic hidden order phases due to the interplay of frustration and quantum fluctuations. Their signature in magnetocaloric quantities and the hig...
متن کاملAnalysis of the antiferromagnetic phase transitions of the 2D Kondo lattice.
We study the antiferromagnetic quantum phase transition of a 2D Kondo-Heisenberg square lattice using the nonlinear sigma model. A renormalization group analysis of the competing Kondo-RKKY interaction is carried out to one-loop order in the expansion, and a new quantum critical point (QCP) strongly affected by Kondo fluctuations is found. Near this QCP, the spin-wave velocity scales logarithmi...
متن کاملHeavy antiferromagnetic phases in Kondo lattices.
We propose a microscopic physical mechanism that stabilizes the coexistence of the Kondo effect and antiferromagnetism in heavy-fermion systems. We consider a two-dimensional quantum Kondo-Heisenberg lattice model and show that long-range electron hopping leads to a robust antiferromagnetic Kondo state. By using a modified slave-boson mean-field approach we analyze the stability of the heavy an...
متن کاملPhase evolution of the two-dimensional Kondo lattice model near half-filling.
Within a mean-field approximation, the ground state and finite temperature phase diagrams of the two-dimensional Kondo lattice model have been carefully studied as functions of the Kondo coupling J and the conduction electron concentration [Formula: see text]. In addition to the conventional hybridization between local moments and itinerant electrons, a staggered hybridization is proposed to ch...
متن کاملMETAL-NON METAL TRANSITIONS IN TRANSITION METAL COMPOUNDS.THE ELECTRONIC PHASE TRANSITIONS IN FeS AND NiS
FeS and NiS show first order phase transitions with a change in electronic structure at Ta = 415 K and Tt = 265 K respectively, the latter depending sensitively on non-stoichiometry in the form of nickel vacancies. Extensive experimental data on NiS is reviewed which shows that the low-temperature phase is a semimetallic itinerant-electron antiferromagnet and the high temperature phase a weakly...
